Lawyers hold key to end corruption in judiciary – Justice RM Lodha

In a clarion call to lawyers, Supreme Court Judge, Justice RM Lodha urged them to extend full co-operation in eradicating corruption from judiciary, because according to him 90 percent of corruption in judiciary is due to the lawyers' own conduct. The judge was speaking here recently at a function officially arranged by the Bombay High Court to celebrate 150th year of its establishment. Justice Lodha has been Judge at the Bombay High Court for 13 years, till 2007. In a function attended by Bombay High Court Chief Justice Mohit Shah, Kolkata High Court Chief Justice JN Patel, former Supreme Court Judge, Justice VS Sirpurkar, many sitting and retired judges of the High Court and members of the district judiciary here, Justice Lodha praised both the judiciary as well as members of the bar for progress of judicial system in the country. On this occasion, Justice Lodha unveiled portraits of Justice Hidayatullah, Justice JR Mudholkar and Justice AP Sen from the High Court here, who adorned the Supreme Court bench in the past with distinction. He also felicitated all the former members of the High Court Bar Association, who were High Court judges and retired since then.

The supreme court of india rightly srictured the central govt. on the point of promise annonced with fanfare the vision document promising to appoint 5,000 adhoc judges to wipe out pendency of cases among retd. judges and members from bar"Three years have gone by nothing has been done.We hope expect and trust from U.P.A.2 under the dynamic leadarship of Mrs.Sonia Gandhi she must do some thing as per promise given in presence of Chief Justice of India to the countrymen.We also hope the S.L.V. will be ignited as promised in the same venue under the chairmanship of Attorney Genral of India and others. The Retd. judges are resorvoirs and avilable in sufficianly in country to all level.This columnist also expect from supreme court of india collegium and Jharkhand High Court to fillup the vacacy of High Court subordinate courts. As per my information more than 300 posts of High Court Judges is vacant in country and a large no. of judges post vacant in jharkhand including Principal District Judges/Subordinate judges and Munsiffs.

Legal aid is not charity gift

If legal aid is entitelment of those eligible for it,rather than a charitiable gift,then,the mere attempt at assistance is not praiseworthy,in absence of consistent high quality of service leading to favourable results.This implies that legal aid cannot be left as a part time avocation of well-intensioned private persons or or judicial Administrators whose prncipal carrers lie outside the ambit of legal aid. The soul of the scheme is legal assistance,a specialised know how of the social technologists called lawyears to make shape to this national programme.The bar must lend its expertise librally to the poor who now look upon the law as an enemy,not as freind. Irequest the brethren to do something in this regard.

Success story of R.T.I.Act 2005 in Jharkhand

Finally the matter has been resolved by the state Govt.of jharkhand regarding fixation of pension and other retirel benefiets of late Rabindra Prasad Retd.Head Typisist of Civil Courts Giridih Jharkhand.The issue in qustion has been ignited by this columnist through R.T.I. in sevral forums viz.H.E.Governor of Jharkhand,Jharkhand high Court and Lokayukta of Jharkhand.I have no hesitation to say and write all concerned taken the same in right earnest.The Law Secy.Govt.of Jharkhand,and theJharkhand High Court under the Dynamic leadarship of Honble The Chief Justice Mr.PrakashTatiya done a lot for the widow of deceasad Employee.Lastly i have few words for the ministrial staff of law deptt. of the state lo look matters like this in right perspectiv and do not harass any body like this case,and its require dygnosis and pathology.I am also thankful to Sarvsri Sanjay Prasad the then D.J.of Giridih and present Principal Judge Family Court Ranchi who has been pleased to send the case again to Govt.after the case/finalisation matter was returned with refusal of promotion given to late employee. This is a victory of R.T.I.Act.
